What components make up a microgrid?
In most cases, a microgrid consists of solar panels, a generator set, a grid controller for optimal grid management, an energy storage system, and Cat Connect for remote monitoring. The grid stabilization module for peak load support, the energy time-switching module for limiting peak loads, and the module for expanding energy capacity are part of the energy storage system.

Our own Pon Power Management System calculates, based on algorithms, the optimal time to use each energy source. The smart MMC takes into account factors such as the characteristics of the electrical grid, the chosen energy storage, and the load requirements. This ensures that you are always guaranteed a reliable power supply at the lowest cost.
Our own Pon Power batteries play an important role in the efficient use of green energy and are a key component in our microgrids. They act as a buffer and are highly effective in mitigating the intermittent nature of green energy. All of these batteries are scalable, high-quality, and extremely reliable.
Pon Cat offers a wide range of reliable, energy-efficient diesel and gas generator sets with power capacities ranging from 9.5 to 4000 kVA. From automatic transfer systems and emergency power installations to switching systems for seamless integration, our generator sets are suitable for a variety of gases, including sensitive gases such as landfill and sewage gases. A microgrid is used when the existing power grid is unable to meet the required energy demand. It can also be used to function as an independent energy network when there is no connection to the regular power grid available.
A microgrid consists of three key components to function. It includes a local energy production system, an energy storage system (batteries), and an intelligent management system.
The cost of a microgrid depends on the capacity, the assets, and the availability of a grid connection. The purchase price of a microgrid can therefore range from a few thousand euros to several million euros.
First and foremost, proper maintenance of the assets is crucial for the lifespan. If well-maintained and used correctly, a microgrid can last about 80,000 operational hours before it needs replacement or refurbishment.

A microgrid delivers exactly the power required to guarantee an uninterrupted business or production process. The amount of power is always optimally aligned with the business process. For example, if the consumers require 800 kVA and the nominal capacity of the microgrid is 1100 kVA, the microgrid will supply 800 kVA (and not 1100 kVA).
The required maintenance of a microgrid depends on the number of operating hours. We offer customized maintenance contracts for all components of the microgrid, ensuring a reliable installation.
