Our Caterpillar combined heat and power units are small power plants. Such CHPs generate both electricity and heat in a highly cost-effective manner. They are ideal for district heating, hospitals, or horticulture, where even the captured CO2 can be used as plant nourishment.
EFFICIENT ENERGY AND HEAT THANKS TO CHP
A combined heat and power (CHP) system is a setup where a combustion engine is connected to a generator. This coupling generates both heat and electricity from a single type of fuel, such as natural gas, biogas, or LNG. By producing both from one source, energy losses are minimized and efficiency is maximized, leading to significant cost savings and a reduced ecological footprint.
CHP systems are extremely suitable for applications such as district heating, hospitals, and horticulture, where a reliable and constant energy supply is essential. The generated heat can be used for heating, hot water, or industrial processes, while the electricity can be used directly or fed back into the grid. In horticulture, the captured CO2 can even be used to nourish the plants.
